You can begin to improve your credit record by contacting your creditors. Creditors are the businesses you owe money to. Or you can contact a consumer counseling organization that might be able to help you contact your creditors.
The first step is to work out a plan for repaying what you owe. Once you have a plan that is agreeable to you and your creditors, stick to the plan. Pay them back as agreed. As you pay down your debts and prove you can pay your bills on time, your credit report and score will improve.
